Firestone tires

What do you guys think of firestone tires? I googled them basically theyre lower end Bridgestone tires.

I just bought 4 new-ish all seasons from a junkyard. The date on them is 2020. There no cracks on treads, sides, and no holes inside. They look really good.

Cost me 70$ CAD a piece so 280$ ->215$ USD for all 4

Good investment over brand new in store?

im assuming they improved them from 2 decades ago?

you know what they say about assuming

Second largest recall in US history. The tires killed or injured around 1000 people. Then they tried to cover it up for almost 9 years. That didn't work so they blamed the problem on the consumers hitting potholes. That didn't work either so they blamed Ford. What kind of company is that? Ford ended their 100yr relationship with them after that.

@mountainmanjoe
lol rip. i had firestones on my old car for 3 yrs nothing bad happened . knock on wood

1950: Firestone along with General Motors and Standard Oil, were charged and convicted of criminal conspiracy for their part in the Great American streetcar scandal.

1977: a recall of 400,000 tires produced at the problematic Decatur plant was initiated. Firestone was considered to be less than cooperative with the NHTSA during the agency's investigation into the Firestone 500. Firestone blamed the problems on the consumer.

1978: Firestone recalled over 7 million Firestone 500 tires, the largest tire recall to date. The tire was found to be defective and the cause of 250 deaths.

2005: case in US District Court in California against Bridgestone (parent company owning Firestone), alleging "forced labor, the modern equivalent of slavery", on the Firestone Plantation in Harbel, Liberia.

this is what those 4 new 17" firestone tires look like btw

I made the mistake of buying a junkyard tire once. It was a dud that had internal separation and later developed a bulge. Waste of money for something important like tires.

@mountainmanjoe
nah i had them looked at, theyre in good shape

Opinions mean little since they are already purchased.

But, since you purchased them and they are at least 2020 build, they will do the job for you.  Tire use is not so much to do with the tire but the driver.  How did your last tires last?  that is a good indicator of how these will last.

@jimz
On my old mitsu lancer i had Firestones lasted 3 yrs and sold them with the car

I really hate to spend money on my cars. Seems that most times I will trade the car soon after "fixin" it.

My Expedition has Nitto Crosstrek ( https://simpletire.com/brands/nitto-tires) that were built in 2013. Need tires soon since I see dry rot inside the tread. Not all dry rot is visible outside. Sometimes it is hidden in the tread. Anyway, after seven years it is time to play it safe.

Oh dear I just realized you said you bought junkyard tires

You can't tell anything by looking at them.

When buying tires something to think about is how they are used.  For instance, the Nittro tires I put on The Ford are light truck use tires.  I put them on this Expedition because I was towing over 5,000lbs.  Norman passenger tires had more sidewall flex than I liked so I upped the quality of tire.  That fixed sway on the highway when passed by big trucks.

Our cute little Kia Soul has wide tread tires and I hate them but wife likes the looks.  I find the wide tires walk on roads that have ruts from lots of traffic.  But "happy wife", happy life.

Many things to think about just to buy a set of tires besides name brand.
