I would get a Toyota Camry with a 6 speed automatic transmission.

@nick20s
what year?

@zuhair
2010-2017 non-hybrid ones are good.

Also check this out. Scotty talks about the oil burning years.

If you like V6 Camry, you may consider Avalon too.

@yaser
Is ES350 just a rebadged Avalon?

Powertrain is the same.

Look into Toyota, Honda, Mazda sedans. See what you find that is of interest - what just might fill your bill, … say, you find couple of cars that are of interest, than tell us what you found. Someone in here will most likely have  some experience with them and will chime in, … otherwise, it is difficult to suggest something. Too many variables.

Best,

F.S.

Cars, … like the ones you listed are pretty good "first" cars! I would place them as far as preference: Toyota, Honda, … Mazda bit distant third, unless you prefer a bit larger car. Mazda6 is.

Pricing: … I can’t chime in on that since I’m in Canada. Our prices are much, much higher all around.

Anyway, … notice I said above, "like the ones you listed" - emphasis on “like".
Now, … see if you can locate one or two "likes”, … say, being offered for sale in your area privately, perhaps? Big savings potential if you have time on your hands.

If not, … take at least two on your list for a prolong test drive - say, at least 30-45 minutes mix drive - slow, fast, stop and go, rough pavement, drive them more assertively than you normally drive, … than walk away from each drive for a bit - this is vital. Make note who is trying harder to stop you from waking away, … but don’t stop walking! Most often, … on a used car lots, those who try harder are more motivated to get rid of the car. After a bit of time, … call them and ask them when can they deliver the car of your preference to your independent mechanic for full inspection. Insist on this. Crumble and discard their phone number and hang up if they refuse. Off to the other guy: … same routine, …

… in the end, what you want to achieve is choose a car that you like driving (recall test drive), has been checked by someone who can provide you with honest advise. Bestest of luck, …

First car, these are some checkboxes:

easy to drive(easy to control)

easy for parking

cheap insurance

reliability

Cheap to repair

Cheap to maintain

You may need blind spot monitoring system

You may need back up camera

@mink
2017 Corolla, 2015-2017 Camry are good options. If you can drive a manuel transmission consider a Mazda 3. Honda Civic from 2015 could be ok.

I agree with you. They are reliable and cheap to maintain.
