Im a 21 yr old in Illinois and ive been looking for a cheap first car with a v8 and one that has parts that dont cost that much. So far i have a 2004 mercury grand marquis on the top of my list or any mercury grandmarquis from any year is that a good first car.
Absolutely. In fact, Scotty posted about these - Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Victoria- basically same car. Here is a link to his video:

I would add that starting in '03 or '04 (somewhere around there), Ford started putting in an even heavier-duty 4-speed automatic. But anything 98 and later is great.
How many miles are you looking to get out of the first car? Also, does it have to be a V8? 4 door?

It’s not a bad first car if you need the V8 and want it to last a really long time. They made so many of them (shares same platform as the Crown Victoria and Lincoln Towncar) that they are relatively cheap to buy, parts are readily available, easy to work on (and any mechanic can work on them). You could even do some work yourself and learn a lot.
