I applied a full bottle fix-a-flat on my 2020 Kia Sedona (42k miles) until I took it to a mechanic the following day. They somehow misunderstood me and checked the tire pressure monitoring system (which was always working!).
They never repaired or replaced the tire, and without my permission, they rotated the tires. Since it’s no longer leaking because of the fix-a-flat, now I don’t know which tire needs repair/replacing. Get this: the shop doesn’t know either and they want to charge extra for every tire they take down to locate the tire with fix-a-flat (they checked two for free).
Is there any way I can easily locate which tire has this product since the shop won’t cooperate? My wife drives my kids on highways in this minivan and have heard leaving this product inside is dangerous and very bad for the car long-term.
thank you!
If you have access to a lift, try removing a valve core from one valve stem, one at at time. Have the stem/tire aligned towards the bottom (at the 6 o'clock position) When the air starts whistling out of the tire with the fix-a-flat, you can usually tell rather quickly.. it's messy, very. Pump back up, check the air pressure on any tire you partially deflate. It is not necessary to remove all the air from any tire. This 'trick' doesn't always work and not everyone knows about it. It's worth a shot IMO.
Since centrifugal force disperses the fix-a-flat all over the inside of the tire and wheel... what you are looking for is the first tire/wheel which doesn't shoot out 'just clean air'. That's how "you know" you've found it...
When wife/kids should be safe, you have 2 suspect tires to replace (the other two were diagnosed for free).
When you do this, don't forget to check if one of these two has the fix-a-flat applicated; you first workshop could have scammed you!!
A cheaper solution: let 1 of the 2 suspects check by a mechanic, it will cost a bit, but you will know 'family robs'. 😀
