I have a 2013 F150 with 5.0 v8. It only has about 45k on the odometer, last time I turned the ignition on (power on, engine off) the check engine light will come on and flash about six times before going back on solid. Once I start the motor and drive it turns off, everything seems fine. Normally I wouldn't worry, but I have to take the Truck in for SMOG check in a couple weeks. What could this be, if anything?
I have a scan tool, no codes
it needs a professional tool

If you scan it for codes that might shed some light on the problem.

Anything suspicious in live data when the problem occurs? Usually a flashing light indicates something like a misfire that can damage catalytic converters or other components and means stop driving ASAP.
There is some general low-hanging fruit you can check out, which are really normal maintenance items that sometimes get neglected and cause odd problems. Clean your throttle body and MAF sensor. Check spark plugs (how old are they?). How old are air and fuel filters?
I found it was because I replaced the battery. Surprised nobody mentioned this.
@jjball1080 you might have mentioned that
