Hey Scotty, My dad is looking for a new F-150 with a V8, and I just saw your video on the new F-150 and I wanted to see if they fixed the issues that those 10 speed transmissions have. Thanks!
NO NO NO STAY AWAY! Ford has not and will not fix those 10 speeds until they are forced to. Stay out of the half tons completely if you value longevity. No company builds a solid half ton anymore. The new redesigned 5.0 has A LOT of issues and Ford has all but ruined that motor. Look at motor review.com and you can see what they’ve done to it and it’ll scare you. Cylinder deactivation is just the start.
Jury is out on the longevity of those 10-speed transmissions as well as the 3rd Gen Coyote 5.0 V8 both of which have had issues. And as of model year 2021 all their F-150 V8’s have cylinder deactivation, which is fairly new technology for Ford and you would be a guinea pig for it. For this generation F-150, I would recommend to avoid model years 2018 and newer and stick to model years 2015-2017 with the (true and tried) 2nd Gen Coyote 5.0 V8 mated to the 6-speed automatic transmission.
