2022 Ford Edge Titanium 8 speed Automatic 2.0 I4 Ecoboost AWD 37972 mi

Hello Scotty Kilmer Car Forum Community,

I think I have another issue with my Ford. I have a 2022 Edge Titanium 8 speed Automatic 2.0 I4 Ecoboost AWD 37972 mi. Recently, my front wheels start to skid (like they are loosing traction) when making a u turn. It's especially bad when turning on a wet road. However, my mechanic tells me that 8/32" of tread are left in the two front tires and 7/32" of tread are left in the rear tires. A different mechanic says I have 6/32 in all 4 tires. Not really sure if I have a tire issue or a traction control issue.

Irrelevant unless the age of the tires is known. The rubber in tires hardens over time, causing loss of traction. Of course on a 2022 vehicle they should only be a few years old but the only way to be sure it check the date code on the tires. It's always possible they were sitting in a warehouse for years before Ford installed them.

Aside from that, some tires provide less traction than others. You need to research the traction characteristics of the manufacturer and model of tires that are installed.

If the tires are still relatively new, are you (near) flooring the gas pedal when you begin to accelerate?

It doesn’t take much to spin tires, on a turbocharged vehicle.

@itwt no, I never floor it I am too worried about my engine blowing up lol...

Lol, I would just drive more carefully when making turns. Unless the vehicle becomes uncontrollable, there’s still time to diagnose. Any ABS or traction control system codes, when you scan it?

probably something to do with this

the steering wheel shakes when going down the road...

the wheels make a rubbing sound when you turn the steering wheel hard.

@imperator well with that topic’s issue that occurs when you turn hard right. This issue occurs when you turn hard left.

None of this is something a new car should be doing.

Date Code For All 4 Tires: 1322

All 4 Tires are Hankook Ventus S1 noble2 245/55R19 103V

I have the same tires on my Mustang, albeit a different size. I've never noticed anything "off" about them. I actually bought new tires a year ago because that same tire was on sale and I really like them.

When it was pouring down rain 4 years ago I accidentally made too hard of a right turn going slowly and fishtailed. First gear, RWD and a light car is a potential recipe for that happening.

Skidding tires means you broke static friction. Static friction is required to roll without slipping (skidding). Skidding tires don't turn. You may be cutting the wheel too rapidly for the driving conditions. All of the friction happens within contact patch of the tire.

Did the car experience some kind of accident before you bought it, or did you buy the vehicle brand-new?

@fishingandcarsenthusiast123 So only about 3 years old, no age problem. General rule of thumb is about six or seven years, depending on environmental factors.

I have owned it since brand new no accidents
