Hi 👋Â all
Got a question about a ford explorer 2006 V6 4.0 XLT. Â
Is it normal for chain repair stores to stock cheap engine oil 🛢? And use on people's cars regardless if its fully syntheticÂ
to cut a long story shortÂ
My sisters Ford explorer has engine problems at 145k miles, and may need a new timing chain 🔗 or new engine.
I really think the Macanic she is with has done her over badly over the past 5 years or more.Â
She drives about 10k a year and the Macanic has marked her down on the last invoice for the next scheduled 📅 oil change which is 6 months from the last time it was done. It only states 5 quarts of oil and filter blar blar on last receipt.
I Doubt macnic will be willing to disclose if its had at all over the years the recommended synthetic oil 5W-30.

Wow yeah realized of course the engine oils what lubricates the timing chain if it gets dirty and wears out the chain will wear out faster. And with modern engines getting higher and higher pressures that's why they invented that gf6 oil to keep the timing chains from wearing keep the piston rings from wearing and so if the guy didn't change the oil often enough or use the correct oil yeah it'll wear out faster
