should I use synthetic or conventional oil

Scotty I have a 1995 Ford F150 300 straight six manual transmission do you recommend synthetic motor oil I understand that synthetic motor oil can cause your gasket to leak is this true?

  1. It can, depending on how well the engine was maintained. Sludge can act as a sealant in a badly maintained motor and it may leak if removed. I run Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage full synthetic in my 1999 Ranger 3.0 with just under 267k on the odometer. I bought it at 249k and haven't noticed it using anymore oil than before.  

The stock person in automotive at Wal-Mart informed me the other day that Wal-Mart will carry ONLY synthetic oil from now on. Keep that in mind.


Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I'll have to get my conventional high mileage Pennzoil for my Catalina somewhere else. That's annoying.

I would just stick with conventional in your case.
