[Solved] Ford Focus "A Shift Fork"

Topic starter

I have an automatic 2014 Ford Focus hatchback with 144k miles and 4 cylinder 2.0L flex fuel. The check engine light came on and the transmission shifts very poorly when accelerating. Sometimes it won't shift out of neutral until I disconnect and reconnect the battery terminals. The obd scanner said it was

P2831 Shift Fork "A" Position Circuit

P287B Shift Fork Calibration Not Learned

P2832 Shift Fork "A" Position Circuit range/performance

What kind of fix am I looking for? Is it something I can do myself or take it to the mechanic?

You probably need a new TCM (it has the shift motors that move the shift forks integrated into it)

Ford has extended warranty on some transmission components, check if that’s applicable to your TCM.

EDIT: as it seems you’re in luck, the TCM warranty extension was 10 years or 150k miles.

Thank you!
