My wife tells me that her 2011 Ford Fusion air conditioner turns off (and on) on it's own. It just shuts off (no air movement at all). At first I thought it might be because we live in Arizona where the heat has exceeded 116 degrees, however it does it in the morning with it's only 85 outside. Maybe it's a switch/relay? The air blows cold when it's working. Any idea what could cause this?
Try turning the fan speed on low and see if it stays on. When the blow motor resistor (most common) or blower motor starts to go, the A/C controller will think the motor is overloading and shut off the blower. So if the fan stays on the lower speeds and not high, it is most likely the motor resistor (it controls the speeds). Also it is generally a good idea to stick with a motorcraft resistor if you replace it. Non-oem resistors often do not meet the specs required by ford and will not work.
Thank you _Aragorn_7, I will give that a try.
