2013 F150 5.0 4x4
Randomly shows a service message looking like a red wrench on the dash display.
Will lose speedometer and will read 0MPH while driving.
Goes into like a limp mode with almost no power at all.
Yesterday for the first time I has the speedometer and everything seemed good except transmission seemed to be stuck in like 2 or 3.
Don't know which one because the dash wasn't showing what gear I was in like usual.
Wouldn't shift had to turn off truck and restart then was fine and this is usually what I do cause I thought it might be a computer issue.
Things I've recently changed.
I ran seafoam through fuel system
Changed spark plugs gapped to .050 cause couldn't find a very diffinative answer on gap everyone said one thing and for recmended others.
I unplugged computer while changing spark plugs to get wire harness out of the way so it wouldn't be damaged. Battery was disconnected.
Scan for codes. Also, do not use seafoam in your car.
Bad grounds can cause a lot of strange problems with the different electrical systems in vehicles. Check all your grounds, especially the engine to frame.
The OSS (output speed sensor) ((for the speedometer not working)) and the Transmission Range Sensor (for no gear indicator) would be the likely suspects.
There was a recall regarding the OSS on 2011 to 2013 F150's so look into that.
And on yours you probably have + and - buttons on your gear shifter for Progressive Range Selection and when activated it won't display all the gears so you can try hitting the + button in on the shifter to see if the gear indicator returns.
