Ford Reliability?

Hi all,

I was reading this article and it said that JD Power says that Ford ranks third in the most dependable Mexican vehicles, more so then Toyota or Honda. How could they say that they are more reliable than Toyota or Honda with a track record of reliability? Why should we believe anything that J.D. Power says? It's a marketing company.

JD Power and Associates is a pay-to-play corporation. Ford paid to have that. Ford had to recall certain vehicles for faulty fuel injectors (all of them were made in Mexico), and they didn't replace the fuel injectors. They put some stupid system in that detects fuel leaks, because it's the cheapest possible fix. Nothing like driving around a potential molotov cocktail that you paid good money to acquire.

Toyota and Honda don't have any of those issues. I see NJM Insurance commercials constantly, bragging because they were rated exceptional by the same organization. It's just hogwash.

FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily

@fjcruiser_2014 Or "Found On Road Dead".

@chucktobias That was a good one; hadn't heard of it!

@fjcruiser_2014 That one goes wayyyy back. The only Ford I've ever owned was a 1966 Fairlane back around 1972. That saying was ancient even then, though I have to say that car took every abuse a young idiot could dish out and the stupid thing just kept going.

@chucktobias Wow I wasn't even born back then! But my dad does tell me about having old American cars when he was back in college and how gas was under $1 per gallon.

Back when I owned that Ford gas at discount stations was about 27 cents per gallon give or take a couple of cents. It had been around that price for many years but that all changed when the first "gas crisis" hit. (Of course you have to factor in a whopping inflation factor since that time for an accurate comparison with today's prices.)

@chucktobias I was born in 1991; I do remember when gas was at most $2 per gallon which is a dream now unfortunately. (True but I think even with the high inflation prices these days are very high compared to income than they were before)

@fjcruiser_2014 I'm Scotty's age. I remember gas prices always being around the same until the early 1970s "gas crisis" hit. (When gas prices skyrocketed that's when I ditched my V8 Ford for a 4-cylinder Datsun 510 but that's another story.) You are certainly correct about prices relative to income but that's a discussion for some other site.

I had a 2015 Ford Fusion. Sold at 110,000 miles. It never had any issues and still drove like new when I sold it. So personally, I still think if you do maintenance well, Ford vehicles should last well. There are lemons here and there, of course.

Trust me I know all about it my Ford is so unreliable, I just shared because I was so surprised by this. When my extended warranty is up on my Ford I am buying an Acura or a Lexus no questions asked. No more Fords for me!

@fishingandcarsenthusiast123 They didn't used to be that way. My '99 Ranger with a 3.0L Vulcan still runs like a scaled ape at almost 300k miles.
