Greetings Scotty,
I was offered a 2012 Honda Pilot by some generous friends for free. They haven’t had major issues with the car and it has about 140k on it.
i currently own a 2006 Toyota Sienna with 100k. It has had minor issues but currently has a slight engine shutter, I suspect something with the transmission but seems to be running fine.
My question is should I accept the Pilot? I would have to get rid of my Toyota if I do because I could afford to insure another vehicle.
Have you at least looked into what it would cost to insure a second vehicle? Insurance companies have something called a multi vehicle discount and a lot of times in the end it really doesn't cost much more to have a second car on the same policy.
If you really think you have a transmission problem, I would take the Pilot. But before you do any of that, have you priced liability insurance for those cars? Should be very cheap to keep both.
I would stick with what you got, esp. since you have minimal issues with it. Better the devil you know, sometimes.
