No, your shock absorber will get damaged by dust.
When the stanchions will get damaged due to scratches by sand and junk, you'll need a new shock.
Parts are there for a reason, if there wouldn't have been one- it'd be removed for cost, especially on a 600cc.

If we are talking about a case in which a ball joint is making noise only on one side of the car,
Then you can probably can get away with replacing only one, BUT it definitely best to replace BOTH!
