Fuel calibration issue. Help!

Hi,

2012 Kia sorento diesel 4 cyl, 2.2L.

6 speed automatic

Odometer: 703,000 KM (436,000 miles)

Engine original

Gearbox has 560,000 KM approximate (348,000 miles)

My fuel capacity is 70 L.

When my fuel gauge is showing empty, the actual fuel in my tank is about 40 L.

The I put full tank of fuel. The gauge shows me 70% or less.

Last year, i tried to fix this issue by replacing the whole fuel pump assembly, which is inside my fuel tank.

I installed a 2nd hand whole fuel pump assembly, and it didn't fix the problem. The calibration issue was the same.

So i had to put my original one back.

Post covid, i got into a habit of driving with less than 1/4 tank of fuel 80% of the times.

So i have a suspicion this may have messed up the calibration over time.

Someone told me this is a common problem with Kia Carnival Diesel, and they paid 550 AUD (350 USD) to the KIA dealer to have his re-programmed or re-calibrated.

I try to not visit the KIA dealer, because they charge $180 AUD (114 USD), just for diagnosis, even if they cannot find any issues with it on their scanner.

Please can somebody help what could be causing this?

Well if you can find a mechanic, where's the equipment to recalibrate those go to them. Very few guys have that equipment outside of a dealership though
