- Why my gas gauge doesn't work on my 2006 chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3 liter z71.

The wiring diagram is nice enough to show the resistance values for the fuel sender.
250 Ohms = Full
40 Ohms = Empty
So if you can reach the wiring connector on top of the gas tank for the fuel pump module and disconnect it, then turn the Key to ON the fuel gauge should read Full.
And if you use a piece of wire and jumper the Purple wire to the (thinner) Black wire on the harness side of the wiring connector the fuel gauge should read Empty.
If these happen then the sender is faulty.

How much diagnosis have you done? Have you checked the sending unit in the tank? Wiring?
