I have a 2006 VW Jetta and the gas strut for the hood is worn out.
I've seen Scotty talk about the clip that can be used in lieu of replacing the gas strut, but I don't know the name of the clip or where to purchase it.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction?
A pair of struts are around $20. You just need a screwdriver to replace them. Takes a couple of minutes
Just be careful if you use a gadget like that. Years ago I used something similar on the rear hatch of an AMC Eagle wagon. Unfortunately someone who didn't realize it was there went to slam down the hatch and broke the hinge on that side. (Since then I've always just replaced worn gas struts.)
forget the gimmicks. Just buy a new strut and your door will work like new again. They are not expensive and easy to install.
You're 100% correct because I just bought a new gas strut from O'Reilly's for $27.47 and it has a lifetime warranty, and it is much cheaper than the Hoodstay.

Thank you!
You're welcome.
