Running an engine on wood gas

Need Scotty to answer this one. What's your opinion on the wood gasifier to run a gasoline engine. I have heard of running engines on just gas fumes, it does work. However, I learned in college that the fuel is also a lubricant for the pistons. This means to me that running on fumes or worse, wood, there would be no lubrication. How long would these engines last.

They are not very efficient. I wouldn't waste your time.

It doesn't work in practice. Many people have tried. It's just horribly impractical.

Definitely impractical, but kinda awesome.  Would make a really good apocalypse vehicle 🙂  I've considered buying or building a wood gasifier/generator just for fun and to get power to my barn.

There are some decent videos on Youtube about the gasifiers, some in cars with varying results.  Garage 54 is one channel that tried it, but mostly failed but was interesting.
