Hey Scotty, do you know of any good gasoline testing kits? I want to go around my town and test all the gas to see what is the best
You're not going to be able to test it and determine who has the best. Proper testing takes a lot of highly specialized equipment. Companies like Blackstone Labs could tell you but you would spend a small fortune testing all the gas in your area. And by the time you test it, other stations may have gotten a resupply of even better gas.
This is a complete waste of time project that will never have a solid, concrete finding.
Wow, why?
Test it for what? You would probably need to send the samples to a lab.
Down here in Florida, we can still get non-ethanol gasoline. I'ts about 20 to 25 cents a gallon more than reg. The local stations sell tons of it , mostly for outboard motors and motorcycles, but anybody can buy it. We also can get racing fuel and av-gas which is loaded with lead if you have an antique car.
There are tests out there for finding the ethanol content of the gasoline. Most gasoline contain up to ten percent ethanol, except e15 and e85. Generally the less ethanol, the better. Scotty made a video about these. You really don't need to test your gasoline in most cases though.
ethanol content is stated right on the pump
newer engines are optimised for ethanol, and actually use it to make more power.
Yes I am aware that it is stated on the pump. All I'm saying is that there are tests out there if he wants to check but I'm not advocating for it. Most cars are still not meant for more than 10% ethanol gasoline because it is very corrosive and attracts water. And according to Scotty's video, ethanol contains about 20% less energy than gasoline, so even if you have a flex fuel car, you would get worse mpg if you used e85.
As I said, it depends if the engine is optimized for it. Even though it may contain less energy, ethanol allows the engine to create more compression and run more efficiently if the manufacturer takes advantage of it. 'Top Alcohol' is dragster fuel. Scotty states this also in his videos.
Alright then- I agree with ya if the manufacturer takes advantage of it.
