Hey Scotty , I just bought a 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo LTZ with 170,000 miles for 4,200$. It was driven by an older couple that bought it new and overall the car seems in good condition besides some minor rust damage. I bought this as a daily driver so how long do you think it’ll last before Something major needs fixing and what’s your general opinion of Monte carlos.

I don’t know how many they sold, but there are not a ton of them still around, so you may not get many comments.

from what I can tell, they are prone to electrical problems.  Not necessarily expensive repairs, but often hard to diagnose.  The power trains were reasonably solid, but GM engines and transmissions of that era were notoriously maintenance-dependent.  If it was well maintained, it’s probably fine (which sounds like that one was). But if they deferred maintenance, you could have Scotty’s proverbial money pit.

Change all the fluids and plugs.  Check the oil level weekly and change it every 3000 miles.  See what happens.  She may go another 50,000 miles or more.
