After watching Scotty for a few years I recently purchased my 1st Toyota! An 05 Sequoia SR5 2WD with, as Scotty would say, "ONLY" 215k miles for $3900 which included TT&L. I found it at an actual honest used car lot I found on OfferUp. Sal's Auto Sales in Kingwood TX.
It passed the "fancy scan tool test", has no damage or rust, has great paint, AC and heat. Driver seat has "butt slide" wear on the edge but who cares! Rear gate latch didn't work so I ran the release cord 1" out the latch hole and secured it. TPMS flashes but 1" of electrical tape and a tire gauge fixes that. I can hear Scotty laugh!
I travel for work and found Hall's Engine Rebuilding in Moreno Valley CA. They did a Gates timing belt, tensioner, water pump, oil and filter change, serpentine belt, radiator cap, thermostat, antifreeze and checked my suspension for $700 even! They also kept me informed and had me out the next day. Oh yeah... they also have a radiator shop.
They have been in business for over 50 years and 3 generations at the current location. I can understand why! They even work on Model T's and have since the grandfather opened at his original location way before that.
There is a little play in my rack and pinion but the owner said it wasn't anything to worry about for now. He could have done unnecessary work but no, he was honest. He said that's how he keeps his customers. Reminded me of Scotty.
Lesson? Have patience. It took me MANY months to find this Sequoia. Now... the engine shop? I just happened to find them across from a hotel I was staying at. Anyway, maybe these places can help someone in those areas.
Hey thanks for sharing great information for everyone yeah they're still a few nice guys out there
