Has anyone tried the harbor freight obd2 readers? I found their Zurich zr8 and read the features I’m a bit confused on the alternator testing the model only does domestic vehicles? Would it be worth upgrading from the Zurich zr2 I’ve owned it for some years now and it’s been good for checking just the check engine lights. The zr8 is an open box item and for $35.
If you go to the top right of this page and click TOOLS you can see the ones that Scotty recommends, including one for $45. I think you'd end up much happier with one of those than an open box returned item from Harbor Freight.
It all comes down to how new of a vehicle your scanning and if it’s only for check engine light code reading . Some of the cheaper scanners depending on the soles they communicate can cause codes to store
Speeds they communicate
The zr8 does abs codes and alternator tests it does more than the zr2 the lowest end model. I feel having those features would come in handy and because it’s marked down a good deal. Can’t figure out why it was returned to be put as an open box item
Someone probably bought it and scanned there car and returned it... who knows
The customer reviews look fine. If you don't like it you can just return it.
Harbor freight has a policy on open box items if I buy it I’ll only have 5 days to return from the date of purchase . I’m skeptical to why someone would return it considering auto parts stores can check the codes. I’m hoping it’s not faulty or damaged
That is so cheap don’t think twice they probably just used it and returned it. I would test it in the parking lot to see if it works.
