I was planning to purchase a new sporty sedan and I narrowed it down to the following:
Acura TLX
Lexus IS350
Genesis G70
I took each of them on a test drive, making sure to test a new one and one with higher mileage.
The Lexus was, well, a Lexus. Solid and reliable, just dare I say a little boring. Just didn't have the fun factor I was looking for.
The Genesis was not anywhere near as bad as everyone here makes them out to be. Tested two used ones, one with 80k miles and one with 110k. Honestly felt just as solid as the new ones apart from the nasty cleaners the dealers use. (I ordered one of them)
The Acura was actually my top choice before I went to test drive them. New one was pretty nice, forward visibility was questionable but I could get used to it. Then I test drove a used one, 30k miles or so. The thing felt like it was going to fall apart. All the interior bits started to come loose and/or creaky, along with leather that looked 10-15 years old. The interior electronics didn't function properly anymore (for example, the cooled/heated seats barely changed seat temps and the some of the speakers were shot). Driving wise, everything felt loose. I was so disappointed.
Is this the case with all modern Acura/Hondas? I don't want to start recommending them to friends/family if they turn into Stellantis products after the break-in period.
Lexus is definitely good. I would not recommend any Kia/Hyundai/Genesis product given their track record with issues. Honda/Acura are good. I have a new generation Honda and haven't noticed any of the issues you stated so maybe the previous owner didn't take good care of it. I would still recommend Honda/Acura products and I'll happily buy them myself too.
