- Suppose a guy wants to run his dual cam vvt chevy engine to its limit (300,000-400,000mi) maybe just change on the timing and gaskets, can a fella run a 10w-30 synthetic instead of the ole 5w-30 for better lubricity with worn tolerances and high mileage?

No. VVT engines are picky about the oil.

Only run what OEM says.. that will do no good on new engine.
