I just graduated from highschool, and my plans are to go into automotive tech at acc in Austin. I do not know much about cars but would it be worth to get into this kind of trade?. What are the pros and cons?. Should I try to get into working in a dealership or a shop after I get my certification.
One word: electronics. Concentrate on learning vehicular electronics. Unfortunately we are on an ill-considered push by governments to convert to electric vehicles. Electronics skills will be valuable in working on any vehicle no matter how it is powered.
#1 piece of advice ... talk to some mechanics.
The ones I've heard from, HATE working at dealerships. It sounds like they really abuse you at dealerships, so you might be better off at an experienced independent shop where you can build a relationship with the owner, hone you skills, build your experience and clientele. Maybe it depends on personality type too.

If you go to our FAQ page under mechanics, there are some in Texas who might be good for some guidance as well. I'm fairly sure your question will catch Scotty's eye, so stay tuned to his videos and I bet you'll hear an answer soon.
