[Solved] Help fixing a broken resonator

Topic starter

Hello Scotty! I'm a Brazilian fan and i own a corolla seg 2005(i guess the "seg" here stands for the "le" version around the world). Recently someone hit my car and with that impact and what succeeded it broke the air filter resonator(free translation from the car part name in Portuguese), and im not being able to find a new or even a used one to repair. So i would like to hear your opinion on what to do, maybe a tip to fix it and if that makes a big difference in the car performance. Thanks a lot.

The car is automatic with a 1.8 engine if this could help.

interesting I've only ever seen black plastic ones. This one looks a lot like a coolant tank.

Anyway, it looks bad. Fixing it to be air tight will be a lot of work. maybe if it broke into large pieces, and you still have them, you might be able to glue it together. But there will be a lot of pressure and vibration on the part.

Have you checked the auto junkyards? Scoured the internet?

@imperator yep, i have checked all the auto junkyards around the region where I live and searched the whole internet for the part, and all the ones that had it to sell, at some point at least, didn't have it in stock and its pretty hard to find corollas on junkyards here in Brazil. But yesterday I went again on the official Toyota site for parts and it was there, now they had it in stock. So I just bought it(it was quite expensive though), and it arrived so quickly, I already have it. Thanks for the help though.

Do you have a photo showing the extent of the damage?

@chucktobias yes I do! Not a great one but I have. I'm just not sure how to add it here and if I can do that.. I'm new on this platform.

@Alessandro98 check the guide. first link on the front page.
