I just bought a 2004 chevrolet tahoe with 173,508 miles on it. My transmission seems to be slipping. What can i do to fix it without taking it to the shop?

Check the transmission fluid level. If it's full, try some additive and cross your fingers. Look for another vehicle.

Unfortunately those transmissions are weak, and according to Scotty those older American cars tend to shed clutch material into the ATF so changing it would cause even more damage. Try the Lucas Transmission Stop Slipping Fix *formula thingy* that has been recommended many times here, but can't guarantee it would work. Your transmission is definitely on its way out, sooner or later. I think its time for you to research your new ride because this one won't last long. I wish you the best of luck.

Lucas transmission stop slip is the only band aid to use.

it’s only a band Aid though.

My dad had that same exact car and at that same mileage the transmission went out. He got it rebuilt, but then it started slipping again, so he ended up putting in a used one. Worked pretty well after replacing it though.
