Hey Scotty,

I’m sticking true to Toyota’s reliability in my used car search with two very different cars. I’m trying to decide between a 2011 Scion tC with an automatic transmission and about 130,000 miles on it going for $5,999 vs. a 2011 Lexus IS 350 with an automatic and 153,000 miles going for $7,495. Both cars are at dealerships.

I’m looking for something that can last me the next 4 years with minimal issues. What do you think is the better value and more reliable? Thank you in advance!

Both are good cars but in different categories. The Scion tc is actually a compact two door Subaru which has a stiff ride, on the other hand, Lexus IS 350 is a luxury sedan which has way more comfortable ride. I would personally go with the Lexus, but make sure you test drive both and have your mechanic check the one you want to buy.

Thank you for the advice. Definitely will be inspecting and test driving both options. However, I think the Scion you're thinking about is the FR-S? The tC is still a stiffer ride but it has the same engine as the 2.5L Camry and based on a Toyota platform.

Both are good. 6 of one.

but: although I would guess the need for repairs will be similar, the cost of repairs will not.

That's a very important distinction, Thank you Dad2pwd. I may be replacing the same Toyota based components and systems but one will still be the complicated(luxury) version of that repair.
