Hey Scotty are the 2011-2014 5.0 coyote engine Mustangs reliable if you don’t drive them hard
I am not planning to do burnouts so I am wondering if the 2011-2014 Mustang 5.0 can last over 300,000 miles. I am looking to get one with the automatic transmission
The 1st and 2nd gen 5.0 is rock solid reliable. The automatics are weak in the mustangs. I wouldn’t be surprised if you needed a rebuild around the 200k mi mark. Also, most people run the piss out of those 5.0 stangs. I’d make sure to get a thorough inspection on that car before You buy it.
Our esteemed member and Mustang expert (has owned them all) would agree those 5.0s were reliable. See link below: Be sure you stay on top of the engine oil changes (every 5,000 miles) and don’t beat on the car too hard and it can last you. Now, with those vehicles future longevity will be a strong function of how the previous owner (or owners) took care of the vehicle. Also, avoid any Mustang that had the Getrag MT-82 manual transmission. Also, don’t expect some of the electronics to still be working around 300,00 miles.

The automatic transmissions were OK, not sure about lasting to 300,000 miles however. Change the fluid every 30,000-40,000 miles (along with filter change).
Those engines are fine. The 2015 plus had the plasma liners in the engines which are junk. A manual is a better option. I don't believe they had the garbage Chinese transmission at that time. If you research in the forum you will find out alot of information on the mustangs.
Actually, the Gen 3 5.0 Coyotes (model year 2018+) had the plasma arc cylinder lining. Gen 1 and Gen 2 5.0s up to (and including) 2017 model year were OK. Also, the Getrag MT-82 manual were used from 2010+ onward. Links from our Mustang expert Mod_Man:
