- Hi Scotty. I have a 2011 mazda 3 i sedan. I got it used in 2019 at 117k miles. Currently the car has 159k miles on it. I saw AT light come on 2 months ago but it was on and off but recently it came on again and the check engine light was on as well. The car jerks going into first gear and reverse when the light is on but when I reset it by unplugging the batteries, the car runs fine. I had changed the fluid transmission when I bought it in 2019. I took it to the dealership and they couldn’t identify the cause of the problem but gave me a quote to rebuilt the transmission along with TCM saying they performed a test on the transmission and it failed. I never received the report though. The local mechanic shop said the transmission is bad but I’m not sure on what basis he said it. He mentioned that the transmission fluid is really dark and dirty. The OBD CODE said - P0772 stuck solenoid. P0742 and P0744. He gave me a quote for used transmission- 180k miles on it for $1300, 100k miles - $2400 and rebuild transmission- $4000. I’m not sure what to do here. Please advise. Thank you.

Based on the codes and the symptoms, your transmission needs some work. If I were you, I would take the car to a transmission pro and have him check it before making any decision. If he said, you need to rebuild it, you better off buying a tranny from a dealer with warranty.
The transmission mechanic guy gave me a quote (parts and labor) for a used transmission
1. $1300 - 180k miles on transmission- 90 days warranty.
2. $2400 - 100k miles on transmission- 1 year warranty
3. $4000 - rebuilt transmission - 2 years warranty.
Neither of these is good. Find out if you can buy from Mazda directly.
I did and they gave me quote of 4500 with a year warranty on it. TCM will be another $1200.
