Hello Scotty!! I know this is kind of a silly question but is there any type of hill start assist could be installed into a vehicle. My dad drives a manual transmission Tacoma but he is turning 75 this year and he is not as fast on hills as he used to be. He has already backed into a Jeep behind him on a hill and he does not want to trade his truck for an automatic. Are there any options?
He can start uphill using handbrake and clutch.
Press gas pedal to get to around 3000 rpm, release the clutch slowly and when it starts grabbing, release the handbrake.
I know this is not a helpful tip in your case since he is very old.
Does he need to drive uphill? If there is an alternative route, try to convince him to go that way. There you will have to be stubborn.
What are his driving abilities? Still decent, safe to drive? If not, it is better he doesn't drive anymore.
Good luck!
Gotta love stubborn old men.
