There's no replacement for displacement, as the old moniker goes. Turbocharged, Direct Injection cars are inferior to naturally aspirated cars for longevity. There's a lot less pressure in a naturally aspirated engine. EcoBoost engines don't have a combination of ordinary fuel injection and GDI, as far as I know. You gotta have some from of ordinary fuel injection in order to "wash off" carbon buildup on the intake valves. Toyota has ordinary fuel injection and GDI in the same package now. 3.5L V6s are basically the equivalent of my Ford Ranger, with a turbocharger and Direct Injection. The only things giving you that power boost are the turbo and Direct injection. Without one or the other, that F-150 is and absolute dog.
