Hi scotty my questions is I am interested in buying a 2007 honda civic for 1250 with 143k miles also it has broken muffler and power steering pump needs replacing is it worth the trouble and will the engine be affected by the broken muffler ?
You can hardly find anything for that kind of money. If a mechanic says it's OK aside from those problems then what the heck, even if it lasts just a year or two you're ahead of the game. Bear in mind though that if it's actually the steering rack that needs replacing that can be an expensive proposition due to amount of labor involved and there can potentially be a lot wrong with a 15-year-old car. Don't believe anything the seller says, verify it. You don't want to be in the position of buying a cheap car and then having to put a lot of $$$$ into it.
The broken muffler will be loud but more importantly it can let deadly carbon monoxide into the car so you'd want to replace it, considering that one of the potential consequences of not doing so is death.
