Hey, I got a great deal on a CR-Z at a New Braunfels, Tx dealer four years ago. I went to O’Reilly and their diagnostic tool says I have a P0420 Code...it keeps coming on and off and I have ignored it for the last two years on the dash! Car still runs...

I have tried unplugging and plugging the battery, even replacing the gas cap...adding injection cleaner treatment. I live in Texas, is it the weather? Another fix it yourself YouTube channel says it’s a gasket issue and tried to explain how to avoid getting ripped off by a dealer who would replace the entire exhaust? What does that mean?

I’m too scared to take it to a Honda dealer since it’s a discontinued vehicle (HOWEVER, sidebar There is info floating on the internet suggesting it may be registered for a second round of manufacturing). I think it’s a great car with a serious cult following. I drive a Honda CR-Z but it’s not even close to a CR-X and I don’t know anything about gaskets. #mothertrucker

That code is for the catalytic converter. Check for any leak in the exhaust system. If there is none, odds are that your cat needs to be replaced. Scotty has a video on how to clean the cat using detergent though, so you can try it. Also, your car is too young to have this issue. Have the car checked to find out what cause that.
