Hello Scotty

I love these two cars from what I see but I have no experience with them, I want a car with good fuel economy, cheap/ decent maintenance so the two cars I am looking at are 2009 Honda Accord 2.0L  and 2009 Toyota Camry 2.4L the Honda should have better fuel economy I think but I am not sure of what I think. Please advise.

Thanks {black}:pray:

I will buy them used

Both of those are solid cars. The Camry with the 2.4L engine from that year has the notorious oil burning issue. I would recommend the Honda Accord with 2.4L 4 cylinder - get the 5 speed manual if you want the absolute best reliability. The manual transmission will also get you slightly better fuel economy versus the automatic.

Ok, was I wrong to think the 2.0l should have a better fuel economy compared to the 2.4l engine? Still trying to know some of these facts

Thanks

I don't think the 2009 Accords had a 2.0L engine, at least not in the US. They came with either a 2.4L 4 cylinder or a 3.5L V6.

The 2.4 is much more reliable than the V6 as the V6 burn the auto transmissions out and have premature break wear issues

Probably not much difference in fuel consumption. What are the fuel prices there?

$0.45 per liter

If the car runs as it should, I would not worry about the difference in fuel economy since there are no special maintenance/repair costs.

The 2.4 2az-fe engine found in that year of the Camry is notorious for oil burning and defective engine design the resale value is dramitically lower and the cost to fix is also high (though oil is cheap so just continue changing the oil if you do buy it) so I would not pay much the Accord is definetly worth more in that regard. the 2.4 NA engine in the Hondas are bulletproof but I don't know about the 2.0. The 2.0 engine is not offered in the Accord in the US are you in Canada or something? Both of those actually had many issues compared to other years. I would look for a different gen Camry or a different year Accord because, I take this off of carcomplaints:

"CARCOMPLAINTS.COM NOTES: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects – poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes."

😳 wow, this is ..........
Thanks

I believe the Honda oil consumption issue only applies to the V6 engine. It was caused by the Variable Cylinder Management system. Here's the TSB for it:

Ok I didn't think of that, in Nigeria we have 2.0, 2.4 and 3.5L.

Thanks again

As far as I know even though I don't have experience the 2.4 Naturally Aspirated engines are legendary
@g-t
@yaser
@mountainmanjoe
These people could back me up here eh?

Noted

@mountainmanjoe that helps thanks! kdfhudisgahkhafksjad Man I would sleep on both models for now bc of the Camry's oil burning and defective engine design and the Accords brake, engine, and seat issues. I would look for a 2004-2006 or 2010-2017 model

What generation of Accord are you looking at? 7th or 8th one? I am not familiar when they swapped them in your region.

8th generation

I would look for a 2010 or newer Camry because the 2007-2009 burned oil and the Honda Accords have this thing where the seats are very uncomfortable.

like everyone else said 07-11 camry burn oil get the accord instead

Thanks

But Jebrim don't forget that the Accord has premature break wear and uncomfortable seating issues either way have a mechanic check it out BEFORE purchase.

lol the seats being uncomfortable are ppls opinions on the site u linked. i got a accord everything is comfortable and smooth. it does have parking break cease issue but thats not a problem. most ppl complain about their auto transmission because most ppl dont even do the servicing..

@jebrim
what year is yours?

I’d definitely go for the Accord because it is much more satisfying to drive. My grandfather has a 2007 Camry and as comfortable as it is, that thing is slower than my Civic and merging onto the freeway in the Camry is annoying
