[Solved] Honda accord tranmission drain and fill

I read online you should drain and fill 3x3 then another time to fill. Does this sound correct? My car is a 2010 Honda Accord EX 4cyl with 5 speed AT.

Also how much should I expect to pay for the fluid per quart/liter here in Canada?

Note: The car has 60k miles on it right now that I just bought and 1st owner did not change the fluid before.

Thanks again!

OK, … some screw up, I posted on your other thread the answer, … but it is not showing, … so here we go again:

Yes, three quarts drained and refilled three times is an excellent idea! Make sure that when you draining, transmission is warm each time - car was driven for a bit.

Once you have a drain plug out, note the amount of metal fillings collected by the magnet at the plug’s end. Clean it each time well. Refilling is done through the dipstick tube = get some plastic tubing and a funnel.

As to the price of DW-1 fluid, in Calgary, dealers charge about C$13 per litre. If a dealer does this service for you, he will charge you about C$125 - C$135,  but that includes only one drain and one refill. So, do it yourself and have three drains and three fills at about same price. Plug on the bottom needs a square driver, so you can use an end of 3/8 drive without a socket. It fits perfectly.

Best of luck,

F.S.

thank you very much. will do

… one more note, a clarification: when you draining each time, measure the exact amount that just drained. Than, measure off the same amount of new fluid and pour it in. That way, you will have transmission refilled to the proper level each time. Once you doing a last refill, however, … cut the amount by about a cup. Start the car, … shift transmission through all the gears - slowly, than shut off engine, and check the level with a dipstick. It should show a bit low. Add a bit and check again. If still not between the two holes on the dipstick, add a bit more and check again. The idea is to get the level right, … but not to overfill. If you overfill, draining the overflow amount is not an easiest of tasks.

Cheers.

Make sure you catch and measure whatever whatever drains out and put the same exact amount back into the car.
