Hi Scotty,
Awhile back my '08 Honda Element (Automatic Transmission, 220,000 miles) threw a P2646 error code. Accordingly I replaced the VTEC with an admittedly cheap unit I bought online. That fixed the problem for awhile but one or two weeks later the check engine light came back, same code. Looking for other causes I changed the oil & filter, and replaced the spool filter valve next to the serpentine belt tensioner - no luck. So, is the new VTEC unit likely bad or are there other possible causes?

If it's a cheap Chinese clone instead of OEM then it's pretty likely.
