Honda Engine stuttering and wont go to high RPM

So I got a used 2005 Honda CR-V at 158k miles not too long ago. It seemed like it ran just fine when I got it, but then suddenly I was going pretty fast down a main road and the engine started stuttering, like it didn't want to go above a certain RPM. Check engine light came on as soon as that happened, and it would keep doing it every time I tried to push it past about 3.5-4k RPM. So I hooked up my cheap little scan tool and got P2646 and P1009. I then brought it to a mechanic to help me diagnose the issue and they told me my Vtech solenoid/spool valve is leaking and needs replaced, quoted me $300. I ordered the part to replace it myself. They topped off my oil and I drove away.

Where it gets weird now, is that after a few days I have not actually lost any oil so it must be a very small leak I figure. So I go buy a bottle of Prestone leak sealer to pour in my oil, I use that and then let the car sit over night. In the morning that check engine light is gone and I can go vroom vroom without any issues. I also still have not noticed any oil leaking at all. Now I know oil additives ain't magic, so what's going on here? Were my problems just because of low oil? Do I really need to replace this part at all?

I would keep my eyes on the oil level and if it drops again, I would check to see if you burn oil or not.
