Hi I am a new driver and I'm a bit confused on what my first car should be. I know it's not advisable to get a brand new car, but I do like the HR-V and the Crosstrek since they're SUVs and the safety features. Unfortunately I've only found these cars starting around $20,000 for used ones. I live in NYC so my insurance rates would be high and there's limited space for parking so the Fit would likely be better. Should I purchase what is economical or should I sacrifice and get the SUV that would be better for bad weather and may last longer.

Thank You

All 3 are good options.  The Fit is maneuverable as you say, but really really small.  The Crosstrek would be your best option for bad weather but not very refined.  I know used Crosstreks are in short supply so valuations are way high.  Don’t know HRV market as well, but I would assume the same.  You might have to take what you can get.

The Fit is a great little car. If by bad weather you mean ice & snow, good winter tires will do way more for you than AWD.

The fit would be better for a city and with the fit being a hatch back you will get alot of space to carry items.
