While the Honda Odyssey is still not offered with a hybrid, the new Toyota Sienna is now hybrid only. Which one would you choose in brand new car selections?
My parents have a 2016 Honda Odyssey with 76 000 km and it runs like a dream and we picked it over the previous-gen Sienna because of the superior safety ratings from IIHS. Now the 2021 odyssey is still on the same 3.5 V6 but now with a 9 or 10-speed auto and the Sienna has a hybrid 4 cylinder with a CVT. If you were talking like 2012 and below I would go with the Sienna hands down since the Odysseys back then had bad automatic transmissions. But now that the new Sienna is infinitely more complicated being a hybrid with a CVT stuffed into a heavy minivan, I would go Odyssey since they ironed out their transmission issues and it still uses the ultra-reliable Honda V6 engine. In terms of electronics and features, they are about the same with similar equipment but the powertrain in the Odyssey is simpler since it's not a Hybrid, so I would probably have to go with Honda.
Odyssey has automatic transmission issues, electronic issues,.. if you really want to know about it, search and find out Scotty’s opinion on that.
yeah but that's long gone now, it's not like Sienna will never have issues, it's still a Minivan and I predict that all the crazy electronics and the hybrid system and CVT are not gonna outlast a NA V6 with a good honda designed 10-speed auto. That may be me since I am not a fan of Hybrids and CVTs.
Plus I think it was a big mistake to go all-hybrid with the Sienna. They should have done something similar to what they did with the redesigned Toyota Highlander, retaining the V6 and offering the Hybrid as an option.
I would stick to Toyota. Honda Odyssey has so many issues.
well, the Sienna is a hybrid and the honda is not, so it does have an advantage somewhat.

but "so many issues" is questionable considering my family has one and it's been bulletproof over the last 5 years of ownership.
