Is it possible to hot swap an original module with one from a different vin?
There is a youtube video of guy doing this with a BCM successfully.
Some how ecu reprogrammed the replacement module with the car's vin.
I don't think this would be possible with the ECM because that must be the one storing and writing the vin.

Depends on the vehicles and what capabilities you have as a programmer I just met a guy who swapped out ecms on a BMW which is theoretically impossible but he learned how to input code numbers to make it work and the car ran perfectly fine so we got a really nice BMW for only five grand because they wouldn't run for the previous owner and he got it running by watching a bunch of videos and learning how to program computers
