Hey Scotty , how accurate are chemical block testers like in your head gasket video ?

My heater core went out on my 1999 2v v10 triton f-250 so I ran a bypass hose. It’s popped twice, dumping coolant everywhere causing my truck to overheated twice. The chemical test is showing negative despite  my exhaust  smelling sweet even down by the tailpipe some of the time (no white smoke).

Not sure what to think as it still runs good and there’s no noticeable change in the coolant level. I can’t think of why the exhaust would smell sweet standing behind the truck unless the head gasket is leaking.

thanks.

Sometimes a rich burning engine will also smell sweet. Too much unburnt fuel making it into the exhaust. Have you monitored the o2 sensors while it is running?

Also it is normal for a engine to run rich on a cold start which would be nothing to worry about.
