I wanna buy first car and I was wandering if old w140/w126 cars are reliable ?

I saw plenty of people saying that they are very reliable which why I considered it but I'd prefer if somebody with experience working on theses cars can tell me if its a good first car

They were reliable but you are talking about old Mercedes. Using any car with over 20 years old as a first car for daily driver is not a smart move. At the minimum, most plastic/rubber parts are degrading over time and need to be replaced.

My father in law gave us his old W126 (1986 300SDL) and that was our kids first car.  Very safe for a young driver (ie, it’s slow). Reliable enough for driving to school, though getting on any freeway was a real adventure.

@yaser is right about the pitfalls of an old Mercedes.  It will definitely require care and feeding. Some stuff you can do yourself. Look at https://mercedessource.com/ for info.  But you will also need to have a specialist at the Euro Auto Haus in your neighborhood who knows those old things. If worse comes to worse, most Mercedes dealers have a tech who can fix them, but guarantee they will charge $$$$.
