Is this a sign of burning oil? The two ports are very black, and I just replaced the exhaust manifold today. The car is a 2017 inline-4 with 226,000 miles. It has restored 100% of its power now! It burns 1,000 mL (1 quart) of oil every 1,000 miles. Can I soak the old exhaust manifold in water? Will it help clean up the ash from the burning oil? So i can reuse the old one nezt time since is out

You've answered your own question. If there are no oil leaks, and the car uses oil, it's burning it. A quart every 1,000 miles is excessive.

Oil burning cars leave lots of oily soot behind as the exhaust flows out of of the cylinders. Water by itself is not very effective cleaning agent. Try Dawn Powerwash dish spray, or CRC Engine Degreaser. I used CRC Engine Degreaser a few years ago to clean up a piston before a place I used to work at plated its components.
Good luck.
@justin-shepherd Forgot. Mention camry. Automatic. Got it. Thx
