Scotty, I have a 2010 Ford F-150 XLT, 4.6L V8 engine with RWD. Any idea how can I get the engine idle hours data from this vehicle? Do I need to have a sophisticated scan tool to do it?

I have never heard of such a thing.

Scotty has mentioned it when buying old police vehicles. It is usually called engine idle time or engine idle hours, as a subset of total engine hours. It applies to ex-work trucks too, since they often spend a lot of time idling. You can get the data easily from the newer vehicles (Ford, GM, Dodge etc.) but I was wondering if there was a way to get the info. for an older model.

I have a 2013 GM fleet vehicle, and an OEM diagnostic tool, and I have never seen it.

Interesting, I wonder if you have to have the counter selected as an option upon purchase, or if it was only introduced in newer vehicles. It is apparently obtainable on 2015 Ford trucks and newer from what I have seen, although I did not look into trim info., options selection, etc. I have posted the same question on an F-150 forum, will update here if I get a response.

I can look at total engine hours in my DIC. But no distinction is made how those hours were spent.
