Hybrid powertrain efficiency and pollution

I'm not sure about efficiency of hybrids. A cold engine uses more fuel. So a constantly restarting cold engine shouldn't be very efficient. And quite polluting. Surely this is an issue not addressed in the emissions stats for hybrids?

They are efficient (As all the data show). The hybrid does not work exactly in a way you mentioned.

They are very efficient. They use regenerative breaking, smaller engine that charge the battery and not go to wheel (more efficiency) etc etc.

They are also more expensive and much more complicated to repair.

And replacing the batteries cost a small fortune.
