Hybridizing a Honda Civic

Dear Scotty,

My 95 Honda Civic has 280k miles and keeps on going. I'm thinking about making it a hybrid (a la Toyota Highlander hybrid) by putting in an e-axle in the back. Do you think this is possible and do you have any advice?

Thanks,

Jimmy

I would not even bother doing that to a vehicle that old and with that many miles. I wouldn't even do that to any vehicle at all. This requires modifying the computer heavily. I would leave the vehicle alone.

Anything is possible.

do you have any advice?

Do you even know where to begin? Has anybody already developed an idiot proof bolt-on kit with step-by-step instructions?

If not, then are you a skilled fabricator with engineering experience? Do you have hoist, a full kit of tools? and a lot of spare components and materials lying around? Can you design and troubleshoot complex digital electronic circuits?

Is this 27yo high mileage beater worth a huge investment of either money, or research, development and manual labour?

If you answered yes to most of these, then my hat is off to you. But chances are you wouldn't be asking in a forum meant help people troubleshoot their rudimentary car problems.
