Look for a Toyota Camry or Corolla in your price range. Have a mechanic check it over before you purchase it. You could also get a Honda Accord but if you do make sure it’s a lower mileage car, 150k miles or less and has the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. The V6 versions are nice but the extra power isn’t kind to the automatic transmissions. They just don’t hold up like a Toyota would. Good Luck!
Find an older (but well maintained) Corolla or Civic with a manual transmission and have it inspected by a professional mechanic before purchase.
You might even be able to sell it later, for your purchase price or even some profit..
