I have a 2001 Volkswagen passat I tried starting it with starter fluid in the air cleaner it's cranking not starting , the battery's good it has fuel in it what could be the problem?

Any codes? There are a lot of things that can cause a no spark condition.

Does this model have coil packs or a distributor? You didn't say what engine you had either.
